Meet of Champions Results!

The Con-Val Cross Country team wrapped up a great season this Saturday at the 40th annual New Hampshire Meet of Champions where the best teams and individuals from the entire state toe the line to see who reigns supreme.

Thanks to a strong performance at the DII State Championship meet the CV girls earned a team box on the starting line.  The lady cougars were led by sophomore Clare Veverka who rebounded after a rough meet last week dropping over a minute crossing the line in a stellar 19:37 just a handful of spots outside of qualifying for the New England Championship meet.  Hot on her heels was fellow sophomore Schuyler Michalak who ran an impressive 20:21.  Senior Lucy Freeman also cracked the 21 mark and was closely trailed by senior Sawyer Cawthern.  Freshman Marina McMahon stepped into the number 5 spot followed by seniors Emma Brown and Caitlin Galea.

After focusing on making it to this meet as a team all season it was a great way to cap of the year.

Division II State Championship Results

10/29/2016

On Saturday the ConVal boys and girls cross-country teams competed at the Division II state championship.

The girls were led by Clare Veverka who collapsed near the finish but recovered and crossed the finish line.  Clare was closely followed by the pack of Schuyler Michalak, Lucy Freeman and Sawyer Cawthern who ran great races to more than compensate for the few places Clare had slipped back.  Freshman Hailey Doherty continued to contribute in a big way finishing in the teams final scoring position.  Marina McMahon and Caitlin Galea were close behind running thier best races of the season.  With a 5th place finish the girls team reached a season long goal of securing a team berth to the Meet of Champions next weekend where they will toe the line with the top teams and individuals from the entire state.

The boys entered the meet hoping to better last years 12th place finish in both place and time.  They were successful on both counts with a surprise 7th place finish and a team average of 18:12 (5:52 per mile) on the hilly course.  Sophomores Evan Coyne and Ben Henry led the charge as they have throughout the season both running in the 17:00's.  The group of Liam Veverka, Max Boisvert, Oliver Ellerkamp, Harrison Kim and Casey Burgess all closed the gap on the leaders and finished in a tight pack separated by less than 25 seconds.

Manchester Invitational, Laconia, & Hollis-Brookline Updates

9/25/2016

The Con-Val boys and girls cross-country teams competed at the 42nd Manchester Invitational this Saturday.  With their varsity squad broken up to allow freshmen to race the 2.1 freshman only course both teams were focused on individual performances.

In the boys Varsity race Evan Coyne ran his fastest time of the season averaging 5:52 per mile over a 3.1 mile course which traversed an abandoned ski hill.  Just 3 seconds back was fellow sophomore Ben Hnery who also posted his best ever time.  Upperclassman Oliver Ellerkamp, Casey Burgess and Liam Veverka rounded out the top five with George Shiarella just behind in what could only be described as a breakout race for the junior.

The girls were once again led by Clare Veverka who took a few seconds off her course best though she may have hoped to be further up in the action.  Following her lead Schuyler Michalak, Lucy Freeman and Sawyer Cawthern all ran their best times on the course as well.  Molly Janoch stepped up into the number five spot and Caitlin Galea and Emma Brown rounded out the varsity squad for the cougars.

The Con-Val Boys & Girls cross-country teams competed at the Laconia Invitational this Saturday.  Bluebird skies and moderate temperatures made it a great day for spectators and racers alike, though the undulating, technical course course may have been a little more difficult for those trying to cover 3.1 miles as quickly as possible.

The boys team had a solid 3rd place finish in a 13 team field.  The boys were led by sophomore Evan Coyne who finished 11th in the field of 134 runners.  Just three ticks back was fellow sophomore Ben Henry, both runners finished with a time faster than CV's top runner put forward last year.  Casey Burgess moved up to the third spot, followed by Oliver Ellerkamp and Jackson Burnham who moved into the teams top five for the first time.

The girls team continued to roll taking a narrow first place victory with Kennett finishing second.  Clare Veverka picked up her first victory of the season after a pair of runner up placings.  The cougars top four would all finish in the top ten as Schuyler Michalak (3rd), Lucy Freeman (6th) and Sawyer Cawthern (10th) showed their mettle on the tough course.  Freshman Marina MacMahon rounded out the scorers finishing in the top five for the first time this season.

9/10/2016

The Con-Val boys & girls cross-country teams headed to Hollis-Brookline high school for the Coach Korcoulis Invitational.  Over twelve teams competed including DII stalwarts Hollis-Brookline, Oyster River, Pelham, Bow and Saint Thomas.

The girls team continued their winning ways taking top honors and moving their season record to an impressive 0-23.  Clare Veverka once again led the cougars with a solid 2nd place finish, fellow sophomore Schuyler Michalak was an impressive 6th on the tough course.  Senior Pair Lucy Freeman and Sawyer Cawthern were 14th and 16th respectively putting in their best performances ever on the course.  Freshmen Hailey Doherty, Marina Mcmahon and junior Leah Danforth rounded out the varsity seven with excellent performances of their own.  Sophomore Moll Janoch earned a medal for her 5th place finish in the JV race, in just her second career 5k.

The boys were 9th but within striking distance of the top 5 despite only two returning runners racing varsity today.  Ben Henry led the charge with fellow sophomore Evan Coyne close behind.  Oliver Ellerkamp and Casey Burgess followed the lead pair and were trailed closely by freshmen Liam Gilligan, Jackson Burnham and junior Alex McCall.  Senior Liam Veverka, who was 25th in division II last year, sported his brace in the JV race finishing 8th, approximately one month after being cleared to run after a soccer injury last winter.
