The Cougars captured the 1st round playoff victory over John Stark tonight 4-1. JS scored 1st after a single and a double by the 3rd Baseman and pitcher respectively but the Cougars answered back tieing the game at 1 after Sydney Borges reached on a SS error, Makayla Durgin (Borges' courtesy runner), went to 2nd on a passed ball, got to 3rd on a Chloe Hamlin Bunt, and stole home on a catcher pick off attempt that went into left field. Both teams remained quiet until the 5th when the Cougars lead off with Mea Platt walking. Mae Hagelberg came in as a pinch runner and stole 2nd on a passed ball. Avery Moore hit in Hagelberg but was later caught in a pickle and tagged out. In the 6th, Olivia Riley was hit by a pitch, but got thrown out at the plate on a Hannah Beisang double. Opale Barrick followed with a triple to plate Beisang and Brynn Frosch hit a massive line drive single scoring Barrick.
Sydney Borges threw to Avery Moore tonight and got the win. She faced 29 batters, allowing 4 hits, 1 walk, and she hit 2 batters. Syd struck out 13, bringing her season total to 225.

The Cougars hosted Hanover today with Sydney Borges on the mound and Avery Moore behind the plate. Both teams scored 2 runs in the 1st before the Cougars scored a run in the 2nd and 4th and Hanover tried to answer sclring 1 run in the 7th but came up short stranding the timing run on 2nd.
Avery Moore led off the game with a triple but reached on an overthrow relay from the outfield. Sydney Borges walked and her courtesy runner, Olivia Healey, reached on a single by Mia Platt to right center field. Brynn Frosch reached in the 2nd and scored on an Ivy Armstrong-McEvoy single up the middle. Brynn Frosh hit a triple in the 4th and scored with Makayla Durgin at the plate on a blocked ball that bounced back into play off the catcher's shinpads. Hannah Beisang hit a single in the 6th but was stranded at 1st.
Sydney Borges pitched the complete 7 innings. She faced 31 batters, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits, 2 walks, and striking out 12. Avery Moore had a great throw to 3rd in the 3rd inning to throw Opale Barrick who tagged out the runner stealing.
The final result was a 4-3 Cougar win. The Cougars are now 7-3 and travel to Merrimack Valley on 5/10.
The Cougars took the field today behind pitcher Sydney Borges who was throwing to captain Avery Moore. The Cougars ended the 1st on a High note as Moore connected with Opale Barrick on a pickle play concluding the inning stranding 2. HB went down in order in the 2nd and 3rd and and left bases loaded in the 4th and 2 more on base in the 5th. The Cavaliers scored a run in the 6th but the Cougars answered with a run in the 7th off a single by Brynn Frosch, a base reaching bunt by Ivy Armstrong-McEvoy, and a RBI bunt by Chloe Hamlin, who reached safely. Tied at 7 the game went into the 8th. With bases loaded, HB's Disco hit a line drive back at Sydney striking her in the facemask. Borges, who was alright, left the field and Olivia Riley took the mound. The Cougars fought tough but struggled to end the 9th allowing 7 runs in the inning. Still in good spirits and supporting one another, Olivia Riley hit a single and Opale Barrick hit a single before the final 2 outs.
Sydney Borges struck out 15, walked 9 and hit 3. She faced 36 batters allowing 1 earned run going 7 and 1/3 innings. Olivia Riley came in for relief going 2/3 of an inning allowing 7 runs on 4 walks, a hit batter, and recording her first season K.
Honor Hagelberg was 2-4 on the day with a single and double and Sydney Borges had a pair of singles as well. Opale Barrick was 2-4 with a pair of singles and Chloe Hamlin had the loan RBI for the Cougars.
The Cougars travel to Souhegan on Wednesday 5/1.
The Cougars took the field tonight behind Sydney Borges on the mound and Opale Barrick behind the plate. Pelham scored a run in the 1st and the 3rd and stranded 11 throughout the game as Sydney struck out 21, allowed 9 walks and 3 hits on the day.
Borges hit a triple in the first but her pinch runner, Natalie Andres, was stranded at 3rd while Honor Hagelberg hit a double and Olivia Healey walked in the 3rd but were both left on base. The Cougars reached on a walk in the 4th but were unable to score and went down in order in the 5th. The 6th began with a Borges single, followed by a Olivia Riley triple to right that scored Borges courtesy runner Andres. Barrick hit a grounder to the SS and to score Riley and tie the game. The 7th ended after a single by Ivy Armstrong-McEvoy and a Borges infield fielders Choice but both were stranded.
Extra innings started with a Borges perfect inning retiring 3 batters via strikeout in just 9 pitches. Hannah Biesang stepped to the plate in the bottom of the inning for the Cougars and hit the middle of the left field fence reaching 2nd. Opale Barrick hit a single moving Beisang and reaching 1st before she stole 2nd on the next pitch. With a 3-1 count Honor Hagelberg hit a hard ground ball to the Pelham SS, who bobbled the ball and Beisang scored for the 3-2 Cougar Victory.
The Cougars, now 5-0 on the season, host Hollis-Brookline on Monday 4/29 at 4pm.
