The ConVal Boys and Girls Cross-Country teams opened their season in Kingston at the Jamie Martin Invitational. The meet played host to athletes representing 16 schools from division II and III.
The boys' team placed 6th overall, led by Junior Evan Coyne who covered the course in 18:09 finishing 16th in the 213 runner field. Close behind in the number 2 slot sophomore Harrison Kim placed 20th overall earning a much-coveted T-shirt in the process. Max Boisvert, Casey Burgess and Danny Veverka rounded out the scoring top-5 for the cougars.
The girls team had a great day successfully defending their 2016 title with another win. Clare Veverka led the charge with a second place finish in a time of 19:46. Close behind was Rachel Hurley, who finished 5th in her cross-country debut, Schuyler Michalak who nabbed the last spot in the top 10. Sarah Newell, also making her cross-country debut, crossed the line 14th out of 141 finishers. Marina McMahon had a strong day finishing in 26th to cap of the top five.
The team heads to Hollis-Brookline for the Coach Korcoulis Invitational this Saturday.
