The Cougars took to the field yesterday at home for Opening Day behind Sophomore Lily Mandel on the mound. After 2 innings the score was still tied at zero with a great pick off by sophomore catcher Morgan Bemont and stranding 2 runners after a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Kendall Sullivan. The Spartans took the lead in the 3rd after back to back doubles, which scored 2 runs and was all they would need for the victory, however they did score 3 more. The final, a 5-0 loss for the cougars. Conval stranded 9 on base on 5 hits from sophomores: Lily Mandel, Kendall Sullivan, Morgan Bemont, Rylee Blanchette, and Samantha Henderson. Mandel pitched 4 hard innings, faced 19 batters, allowing 4 hits, 2 runs, 6 strikeouts and only gave up 2 walks. Sullivan came on in relief to finish the last 3 innings and faced 17 batters allowing 1 hit, 3 runs, 4 strikeouts, and walking 3. Morgan Bemont was solid behind the plate allowing only 1 passed ball and throwing out the only runner who tried to steal!
