The ConVal Girl’s Tennis team lost to Windham 1-8 at home on Friday, April 20th. While the team lost overall to Windham by the same score the week before, the number one singles position was a completely different match than the week before. In a rematch of the previous weeks’ match, Julia Peters faced Taryn Livingstone in a match with long, hard-hitting points and exciting play. Julia came away with the victory 8-0.
With the absence of Natasha and Catrina Kipka (the team’s #2 and #5 players, respectively), the doubles line-up was quite varied. Julia Peters played with #3 player Natalie LaFleur for the #1 doubles spot. The ConVal team was down 1-7 when the tables began to turn: Peters and LaFleur were keeping the balls in play and forcing the Windham team of Livingstone and Jess Thibodeau to make repeated errors. In the end, ConVal lost 4-8 but had the start of an exciting come-back.
Sophomore Zoe Werth (#4) played her doubles match with Lena LaFleur, also a sophomore, and junior Jill Karlicek (#6) played with freshman Sandra MacKay who played in her debut match with the team. Both teams played well in their pairings but did not win.
Upcoming matches at home are Wednesday, May 2nd, vs. Trinity and Thursday, May 3rd, vs. Milford. All home matches begin at 4:00 PM.
