The JV Cougars ended their week in positive fashion with a 55-43 win over Kingswood in the second half of their back to backs. The JV Cougars improve to 3-1 on the year.
The JV Cougars held a lead for most of the game but Kingswood kept them on their toes and wouldn't let up, cutting the lead down to 6 points late into the second half. However, a 19 point fourth quarter from ConVal put a stamp on the end to win it. The Cougars played great, aggressive defense throughout the game and a well balanced offense that saw 10 players score.
Coming off his 34 point performance, Joe Gutwein led the Cougars with 16 points followed by Malachi Page with 10. Malachi, who has come upon a newfound success with his self-declared role of primary ball handler, kept the offense and defense steady and showed great leadership skills throughout the game. Christian Buffum played his best game of the young JV season with smart decision making and hitting big shots. He chipped in 8 points on the day. Owen McGuire, Emerson Craven, and Alex Heck showed their "veteran" presence with great lead-by-example play on both sides of the court. Olie Theriault also played his best minutes of the young JV season so far, being featured in a fourth quarter lineup that helped keep the lead and swing the momentum back to the Cougars. For the second game in a row, Noah Stewart provided a great spark of energy off the bench.
The JV Cougars next travel to Hollis-Brookline on Tuesday, January 14th for a Reserve team, JV, and Varsity triple header starting at 3:30. Go Cougars!
