SOUHEGAN HIGH SCHOOL: 58
The JV Cougars are now in the middle of their longest losing streak of the season, 2 games, after being defeated by Souhegan on a Monday afternoon yesterday. The Cougars, who started our 8-0, have now gone 1-3 in their last 4 games in which they have given up an average of a whopping 58.75 points per game.
Bottom line... The JV Cougars need to up their defensive intensity and effort in a BIG way.
There were spurts of defensive promise on the court yesterday with a grouping of Austin Knight, Will Theriault, Max Scheinblum, Trevor Faber, and Erich Clark upping that defensive intensity and effort. The JV Cougars found themselves down by 12, 30-18, midway through the second, but the line up above cut the lead to 6, 30-24, going on a 6-0 run to end the first half.
The same line up brought the intensity again mid way through the third to cut the lead to 2. However, the second unit came in and Souhegan's lead quickly jumped up to 13 after continuous defensive lapses and a Technical foul resulting in a 7 point Souhegan swing.
After these preventable mistakes, the Cougars just couldn't recover from the hole they dug themselves.
Will Theriault played his heart out on defense for the team. Emerson Craven again put in some solid minutes, playing well on the boards. Austin Knight led the JV Cougars in scoring with 15 including 4 three pointers.
The JV Cougars look to redeem themselves this Friday night at home versus Stevens.
