Th JV Cougars improved their strong season start to a 6-0 record on Tuesday night with a tough road win against Bishop Brady.
The JV Cougars struggled mightily in the first half, putting up a season low 17 points in the first 16 minutes. They entered halftime down 24-17. The JV Cougars were off beat on defense, out of whack on offense, hectic with their turnovers, and sloppy with their free throw shooting (I'd give you the number they made and missed but I don't want to embarrass the boys). After some good team reflection at halftime, the JV Cougars came out ready to rock in the second half.
Crawling back to tie the score 32-32 with 3 seconds left in the third, Owen Michaels not only made the highlight shot of the Cougars season, but he gave the Cougars a 35-32 lead and some crazy, positive momentum going into the 4th quarter with a baseball heave from the opposite free throw line that rattled home.
The JV Cougars never looked back. They outscored Bishop Brady 30-17 in the second half and it all started with improved, effort-filled man to man defense. They played hard, boxed out well, got tough rebounds, and pushed the ball up the floor in transition.
Erich Clark finished with his season high, 11, 7 of them coming in crucial points of the fourth quarter. Austin Knight finished with 10 including two big threes and some clutch free throws. Will Theriault and Owen Collins sent out invitations to their own block party and really made a difference in the paint on the defensive end. James Cook's intense play was a big part of the JV Cougar run and Emerson Craven got a huge rebound in the closing minute of the game to seal the deal.
The JV Cougars look to continue their great season Friday night @ Plymouth.
